Enemy Territory: Quake Wars

(Out of 5 Nukes)
This First Person Shooter is a recent release place in a futuristic planet Earth. In this game, the Strogg (an alien race) has invaded Earth with the intentions of of stripping Earth and it's inhabitants of all resources. It is up to Earth's Global Defense Force (GDF) to defend Earth and turn back the Strogg. This war is fought on a global scale and you will find yourself fighting from the Americas all the way into Eurasia.
Each round or battle is set up in a mission mode. Both sides are provided with a series of primary and secondary, of which counter each other, to complete with in a time limit. The various objectives build upon each other. An example would be having to build a bridge, escort a mobile base across it, deploy the base, and then attack the enemies facilities. These are done in an attack and defend setting. If the attacking force does not complete all objectives with in the set time, then defense wins the round. Each objective can only be completed by a specific class as each class has key abilities that can be used through out game play. Offensively you could be assigned to build, repair, escort, destroy, hack, and/or steal to complete your mission objectives.
The classes that are available are Soldier/Aggressor, Field Ops/Oppressors, Medic/Technician, Engineer/Constructor, and Covert Ops/Infiltrator for GDF/Strogg respectively. Soldiers/Aggressors are the grunts in the battle. These units are your typical strike force. The main mission objectives completed by this class involves planting and detonating explosives on a specific target. Field Ops/Oppressors play more of a mission support role. They have a large array of deployables that can assist in turning the tide of battle. Medics/Technicians play the obvious role of keep your fellow troops alive and well. In addition to being able to personally heal or revive a fallen ally, they can also request a Supply Station to be dropped on the battle field which allies can use to reload and heal themselves. Engineers/Constructors have a much larger role in this game than others with an Engineering class. Engineers can be used to build new bridges, outposts, and defuse bombs. They can, of course, also be used to repair vehicles and deployables. Lastly, Covert Ops/Infiltrators are your typical snipers and under the radar characters. Not only can they use powerful sniping techniques, but they can also go in and hack enemy databases and disable vehicles for a set amount of time.
This game is a nice change of pace from your typical kill and capture the flag/spawn point FPS games that are on the main market at the time. It adds a wide range of abilities to the characters and a varying game play type from mission to mission. Is it better than any other FPS out there? Maybe not, but it is a great game to play if you have the chance to do so. There is a fair amount of learning required to pick up this game. If you are an ace at your typical FPS, don't expect to automatically be an ace at this one as well. ET:QW provides fluid game play, range of play, and spectacular graphics. I would definitely add this to your Christmas list if you don't already own it.
