Trackmania Nations Forever

Out of 5 Nukes
Trackmania Nations Forever (TMNF) is a pace paced, pedal to the medal, arcade style racing game. Developed by Nadeo and published by Focus Home Interactive. Trackmania Nations Forever was released on April 16, 2008 and is currently available as freeware through Steam download. There is also a retail version called Trackmania United Forever, also available for Steam download. This game is currently only available on the PC.
Game Play is very basic, finish a track as fast as possible. Sound easy enough? Well, try to stay on some of these tracks. This isn’t your street racing game or some race sim. Basically, think of everything that you ever wanted to do with a hot wheels track and put that on the computer. Full of loops, turns, wall rides, and whatever else may be thrown at you, and you’ll have a blast playing this game. The controls are as basic as it gets. Your arrow keys are your commands. You can, of course, change these, if desired, but I like the simple setup.
Game Play 5/5
There isn’t any kind of story involved with this game, so I’ll have to go with concept alone. Honestly, it’s a straight up racing game. Not too much thought involved. I think that trying to add a story element to this game would actually decrease the overall quality of the game. The concept is to basically make the craziest courses imaginable and go at it. Go for medals in single player, challenge your friends on party play, or take on the world on the internet, it’s up to you.
Concept 3/5
The graphics in the game are just plain fun. Again, this not being a serious game, it doesn’t have top of the line, realism built into the graphics engine. What it does have, is a very well built graphics set that gives it an arcade feel, which is appropriate for the game style. You also have the option of putting on a set of 3D glasses and changing the graphics mode to 3D for an even cooler graphical experience. The lack of precision realism is the only thing keeping it from a five.
Graphics 4/5
You can go on playing Trackmania Nations Forever, well…forever! This game just never ends. Because of the ability to create tracks and race them online, the possibilities are endless. In single player there are dozens of tracks on a multitude of difficulty levels. Online there are countless scores of custom built tracks on the various servers available around the world. I think of the time that I have spent playing this game online; I have run across one track twice. Other than that, I’m continuously finding new and more challenging tracks every time that I log on to play.
Play Time/Replay 5/5
Again, this game is just all about having a fun time racing around some crazy tracks. Casual and serious race fans alike will love playing this game for countless hours on end. It’s free, give it a try. If you don’t like it, uninstall and be satisfied that all you wasted was a little bit of download time. Otherwise, have a great time. I’ll see y’all in my rear view!
